“Carson City stands alone in the West as a capital city wrapped in small-town charm and backed by the beauty of the Sierra Nevada,” says David Peterson, executive director of Visit Carson City. “It’s a destination that surprises people, and that’s what makes events here unforgettable,” Peterson adds.
Carson City offers convenience, culture, and stunning natural surroundings. Groups can experience Carson City’s historic, walkable districts in the morning and Lake Tahoe’s shoreline or a mountaintop trail in the afternoon. Carson City’s compact size and central location make it an ideal setting for meetings, and its infrastructure ensures planners have everything needed for a successful event. The destination offers approximately 1,400 hotel rooms, with recent investments enhancing both accommodations and meeting-friendly amenities. Several properties have refreshed guest rooms and public spaces, while new options are on the horizon, including the Home2 Suites Carson City by Hilton, a 91-room extended-stay hotel anticipated to open in early 2026.
Existing hotels provide a range of flexible meeting spaces to accommodate groups of all sizes. Hampton Inn & Suites Carson City offers 85 rooms and 625 square feet of meeting space, complete with audiovisual equipment and outside catering. Staybridge Suites Carson City – Tahoe Area features 94 rooms and 1,200 square feet across two rooms, while the newly renovated Courtyard by Marriott Carson City offers 100 guest rooms and a 750-square-foot meeting space with catering and audiovisual services. The 166-room Plaza Hotel & Event Center can host up to 300 attendees and offers full audiovisual and catering options. The Federal Hotel Downtown Carson City is undergoing a complete renovation, expected to be completed in April; it features approximately 1,200 square feet across three meeting rooms. Gold Dust West Carson City, with 142 rooms and a 4,000-square-foot meeting room, recently completed a full hotel and lobby renovation. These venues offer planners versatile spaces with modern amenities, along with proximity to Lake Tahoe, Sierra Nevada trails, and cultural landmarks.
Planners can easily incorporate activities that give attendees a true sense of Carson City and its surroundings. Wellness-focused groups often choose the soaking experiences at Carson Hot Springs, while active teams can explore more than 100 miles of trails throughout the area. Cultural teambuilding is equally strong, with guided tours of the Nevada State Museum, Kit Carson Trail walks, mural tours, and custom experiences at the historic Nevada State Prison. For a unique outing, planners can arrange private charters on the V&T Railway, offering scenic rides through the canyons leading to Virginia City.
Carson City’s surrounding communities add further depth to the agenda, from the historic capitol grounds with walkable museums, galleries, and government landmarks to the West Side Historic District, one of the most well-preserved Victorian neighborhoods this side of the Mississippi. “Families love tagging along to Carson City because there’s something for every age—Lake Tahoe beaches and trails, hands-on museums, scenic train rides, hot springs, vibrant events, and a charming historic downtown that’s incredibly walkable,” Peterson says. “Parents appreciate how effortless it is to blend work and play, and kids love how much there is to do.”
