SANTA FE, N.M.—Under Canvas will open its first New Mexico property in April 2027, bringing its upscale outdoor hospitality concept to 640 acres of high desert outside Santa Fe.
Under Canvas Santa Fe will be the brand’s 18th property, offering 45 safari-inspired canvas tents, with temperature-controlled, hard-sided cabins planned for a later phase. The camp will sit at an elevation of 6,321 feet, adjacent to the nearly 10,000-acre Galisteo Basin Preserve and its 44 miles of public trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.
Located approximately 30 minutes from the Santa Fe Plaza, the camp will give guests access to the city’s galleries, studios, markets, historic sites, and New Mexican cuisine while providing a high-desert setting for overnight stays.

The camp will introduce several new features for Under Canvas, including saunas, a dedicated event tent, and cabins. Communal spaces will be positioned on a hilltop with views of the surrounding high desert, while accommodations will span an upper terrace near the lobby, a juniper-covered middle slope, and a lower meadow.
Each tent will feature a private deck, an en-suite bathroom, a king-size bed with luxe linens, a traditional Under Canvas wood-burning stove, and in-tent cooling. Accommodation options will include deluxe tents, stargazer tents with sky-viewing windows above the bed, and suites. Select tents will also offer adjacent kids’ tents with two twin beds.
Two-tent suites will feature adjoining decks for additional space and privacy. The design will incorporate rich woods, wrought iron, earth- and clay-toned textiles, and work from local artisans, drawing on the region’s landscape and creative heritage.
Seasonal café-style dining will incorporate regional flavors, while complimentary programming will include live music, yoga, family activities, and nightly s’mores. Guest Experience Coordinators will assist visitors with outdoor and cultural excursions, including hiking, rafting, and visits to Santa Fe galleries and historic sites. Onsite hiking and biking trails, collaborations with local artists, and the new saunas will offer additional ways for guests to experience the property.
A dedicated 70-foot event tent and adjoining open-air deck will provide space for weddings, corporate retreats, and other group gatherings. The 1,885-square-foot tent will accommodate up to 80 guests for seated events and approximately 130 guests for receptions. The 1,605-square-foot deck will provide an outdoor gathering area overlooking the Galisteo Basin.
A full camp buyout will include all 45 tents and accommodate up to 130 guests. Groups can combine onsite meeting and event space with outdoor activities in the adjacent preserve and excursions into Santa Fe.
Under Canvas Santa Fe will also extend the company’s environmental practices to the high-desert setting. Outdoor lighting and design will follow DarkSky International principles and standards intended to minimize impacts on the night sky and surrounding environment.
The camp will incorporate the company’s Mindful Approach through minimal land disturbance, durable and recycled furnishings, pull-chain showers, low-flow toilets, and rechargeable battery packs.
Under Canvas Santa Fe is scheduled to operate seasonally from April through October, with reservations for the 2027 season now available.
