Set along U.S. 95 and positioned squarely between Reno and Las Vegas, Tonopah offers a meetings destination that feels refreshingly authentic and intentionally off the beaten path. “Located halfway between Reno and Las Vegas, Tonopah is the perfect place to stop and explore with its small-town charm, strong community spirit, and deep mining legacy,” says Mykela Roberts, administrative associate for the Tonopah Convention Center. That legacy is on full display in the town’s historic downtown, where beautifully restored landmarks like the Mizpah Hotel, the Belvada Hotel, and the Tonopah Liquor Co. create a character-rich setting for gatherings.
Tonopah offers approximately 455 guest rooms across a diverse mix of historic hotels, national brands, and locally owned properties. Some of the top options include the 40-room Belvada Hotel, 48-room Mizpah Hotel, 86-room Best Western Hi-Desert Inn, and 60-room Comfort Inn. Additional choices—including Tonopah Station, Clown Motel, Jim Butler Inn & Suites, Star Inn, and Dream Inn—allow planners to match lodging style and budget to their group’s needs. Tonopah Liquor Co. also offers corporate housing options.
Located just off Main Street and within walking distance of most hotels and motels, Tonopah Convention Center offers a centralized option for gatherings of all sizes. With four meeting rooms—including smaller spaces for 25 to 30 attendees, a mid-sized room for up to 150, and a large banquet room accommodating up to 250 guests—Tonopah Convention Center offers flexibility to accommodate various group needs. “Our facility is ADA-approved and prepared to meet all audiovisual, banquet, cocktail, and entertainment requirements,” Roberts says. “We can provide the perfect environment for groups numbering five to 500, and we are equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi.”
Once the day’s sessions wrap, groups have plenty of ways to unwind, explore, and connect with the town. “Tonopah has a great variety of recreational and teambuilding opportunities,” Roberts says, pointing planners toward experiences like guided tours at the Historic Mining Park, where groups can learn about the town’s founding and its 113 original mining claims, or a deeper dive into regional history at the Central Nevada Museum, which offers free admission and provides an immersive look at the region’s mining boom, Native American heritage, pioneer and ranching life, and Tonopah’s role in World War II, complete with a recreated Old West town and historic mining equipment. Heritage Park, a new community gathering space that opened in October 2025, honors Tonopah’s mining roots with colorful murals, a little free library, and welcoming touches like a dog relief area. For something a little more offbeat, attendees can visit the world-famous Clown Motel next to the Old Miner’s Cemetery, explore ghost tours at the Mizpah Hotel, or tap into the area’s mining legacy with Otteson Brothers Turquoise tours. Annual events, such as Jim Butler Days in May and the Rock & Bottle Show in July, give planners natural anchors for group travel, while a steady calendar of craft fairs, holiday walks, and summer events ensures there’s always something happening once the meeting adjourns. Groups can enjoy an evening under the stars at Clair Blackburn Memorial Stargazing Park, home to popular Tonopah Star Parties during the warmer months. According to TonopahNevada.com, 7,000 stars are visible in Tonopah’s night skies. “Tonopah is also excited to be a part of the ‘Park to Park in the Dark; The Starry-est Route in America,’ Nevada’s first astronomy route connecting two International Dark Sky Parks and five rural towns that are along routes US-95 and US-6,” Roberts adds.
