Cedar City

SOUTHERN UTAH

VisitCedarCity.com; @VisitCedarCity—With proximity to five of Utah’s national Parks—Zion, Bryce Canyon, Cedar Breaks, Kolob Canyons, and Grand Canyon North Rim—along with an historic downtown and as home to Southern Utah University, Cedar City is a destination familiar with hosting groups of all sizes.

America First Event Center, located on the university campus, features a 5,300-seat indoor arena. The facility frequently welcomes sports events and concerts, and can host a variety of meetings and conferences as well.

Southern Utah University includes spaces available for meetings and events, such as Alumni Center. Southern Utah University Alumni Center features nearly 12,000 square feet, which is split up between nine meeting rooms, banquet space, and reception space. The two-story venue can accommodate groups of up to 350 people. Event services include audiovisual equipment, onsite technicians to help set up the equipment, and food service. The university also is home to Sharwan Smith Convention Center, a 19,460-square-foot venue with eight meeting rooms, banquet space, trade show space, a 135-seat theatre, and 208-seat Sterling R. Church Auditorium. The convention center is the largest combined meeting space in all of Cedar City; the venue also has access to the university’s Centrum Arena, for events requiring additional space.

The Barn at Cedar Meadows features a 4,000-square-foot banquet hall, a large outdoor patio, and lighted lawn space, making it ideal for cocktail receptions and private dinners.

Cedar City offers more than 2,200 lodging rooms, with 1,000 additional short-term rentals available as well.

With the unique history of Cedar City waiting to be explored, meeting planners can set up a variety of tours for groups to enjoy while in town. The Historic Downtown Tour takes visitors through the downtown to explore its many offerings, learn about its history, and check out its unique architectural details, statues, and monuments. The Railroad History Tour touts Cedar City’s earlier days and the expansion of the railroad, which was a pivotal part of Cedar City’s history. Coal Creek & Cedar Canyon Trail provides an opportunity for guests to explore the network of walking trails connecting Cedar City. The tour winds along the banks of Coal Creek, taking walkers into the Cedar Canyon for some of the town’s best views. East Bench Trail is another trail within Cedar City, and it leads from the center of the city to the south part of town. It also connects with Coal Creek Trail, taking walkers by Gardener Canyon Park Squaw Cave and by Cedar City Providence Center Lighthouse, the nation’s tallest inland lighthouse.
