ANAHEIM, Calif.—Disneyland Resort marked a historic milestone July 3 by welcoming its honorary one billionth guest through the gates of Disneyland Park, coinciding with the resort’s ongoing 70th anniversary celebration and the eve of the United States’ 250th birthday.
The milestone honors more than seven decades of operation at Walt Disney’s original theme park, which opened July 17, 1955, and helped shape the modern theme park industry.
The honorary one billionth guest, Andres Robles, celebrated his eighth birthday with his parents, Alejandra and Jose Robles, of Arizona. Accompanied by Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, the family participated in a ceremony at the Main Street U.S.A. train station, where they helped unveil an updated Disneyland Park sign reading, “Population 1,000,000,000.”
Following the ceremony, the Robles family received a VIP experience, which included a private tour, a visit to Walt Disney’s private apartment, access to the newly opened Soarin’ Across America attraction, and other exclusive experiences throughout the day.
Since opening in 1955, Disneyland Resort has evolved from a single theme park into a major destination, including two theme parks, three hotels, and the Downtown Disney District. The Anaheim resort also served as the model for Disney theme parks and experiences developed around the world.
Founder Walt Disney envisioned Disneyland as “a family park where parents and children could have fun—together.” His approach to immersive storytelling, themed environments, and family entertainment established many of the standards that continue to influence the attractions found across the industry today.
“Welcoming our one billionth guest is a remarkable milestone for Disneyland Resort and a testament to the generations of guests who have made this special place part of their lives,” says Jill Estorino, president of Disneyland Resort. “For more than 70 years, Walt’s original park has been a timeless symbol of Disney storytelling, where memories are made and shared, and we are honored to carry that legacy forward for guests today and for generations to come.”
The milestone reflects the property’s enduring role as one of the world’s most recognized tourism destinations. Over the decades, the resort has welcomed generations of families celebrating vacations, reunions, birthdays, anniversaries, and other milestones, and has hosted meeting and event groups for unique Disneyland-themed receptions and teambuilding activities, VIP experiences, private buyouts, and other special events.
