Rich History & World-Class Facilities Elevate Utah Meetings

A conversation with Natalie Randall of the Utah Office of Tourism

Natalie Randall.

Utah Office of Tourism managing director Natalie Randall knows firsthand how vital tourism is to the local economy and development. After moving to Utah to support her family’s small guiding outfit, she became an advocate for local businesses and economic diversity, first serving as executive director of San Juan County’s Economic Development and Tourism and then as executive director of the Utah Tourism Industry Association.

In her current role as managing director of the Utah Office of Tourism, Randall oversees the national and international strategies for Utah’s tourism and film economies. Here, Randall shares how Utah, “the Crossroads of the West,” invites meeting and event groups to experience its inspiring outdoors, world-class facilities, and rich heritage.

What makes Utah a great destination for meetings and events?

From “The Mighty 5® to “The Greatest Snow on Earth®,” Utah’s breathtaking and contrasting places offer incredible access to transformation, exploration, and connection. No matter what kind of adventurer you are, in Utah you’ll find a welcoming culture, world-class facilities, and experiences that will leave lasting memories.

How has Utah’s history as an Olympic city enhanced tourism and interest among meeting planners?

Utah’s love affair with winter sports can be traced back almost a century, but it captured the world’s attention with the Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games in February 2002. We are beyond thrilled to welcome the world again in 2034. Being selected as the 2034 host solidifies Utah’s status as a top-tier global destination.

Due to our Olympic history, Utah offers numerous Olympic-themed opportunities for meeting and event groups, ranging from a reception overlooking the Utah Olympic Park Nordic ski jumps to a group curling class. It’s the perfect setting for teambuilding.

What are Utah’s top destinations for meetings and events, and why?

Salt Lake City is the ultimate destination for meetings and events. With downtown a short 10-minute drive or train ride from the new and improved Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), attendees can focus on engaging with their event and the destination. St. George/Greater Zion, Park City, and Provo/Utah Valley offer great outdoor adventure, along with top accommodations and meeting facilities.

Many smaller Utah destinations are emerging as new ideal/trend cities for meetings and events because of their unique combination of modern amenities, authentic local character, and, most notably, unparalleled access to awe-inspiring adventure, offering added value to attendees outside of the traditional meeting destination.

Davis County, “Utah’s Amusement Capital,” is home to Davis Conference Center in Layton, a convenient and budget-friendly option close to Salt Lake City International Airport, and Lagoon Amusement Park in Farmington. Groups can rent the amusement park for a fun evening event. Additionally, Davis County is close to the Great Salt Lake, Antelope Island State Park, and many recreational opportunities in the Wasatch Mountains.

Just 40 minutes from Salt Lake City International Airport and also home to a regional airport, Ogden is nestled against the dramatic peaks of the northern Wasatch Mountains, providing unparalleled access to world-class adventure with modern event facilities. Three premier ski resorts—Snowbasin, Powder Mountain, and Nordic Valley—provide attendees with endless adventure opportunities, from Olympic downhill runs to scenic summer lift rides. Additionally, Ogden is an emerging culinary destination, with a wide selection of elevated offerings and culinary delights. Historic 25th Street is a charming must-stroll.

Heber Valley is perfect for groups looking for diverse lodging, modern venues, and Swiss mountain retreat vibes. There are year-round adventure opportunities for all, from skiing to flyfishing, with close proximity to three state parks and two of Utah’s premier ski resorts: Deer Valley and Sundance Resort.

Cedar City, nestled among southern Utah’s iconic red rocks, offers a surprising blend of cultural richness and endless recreational opportunities. Known for its proximity to Cedar Breaks National Monument, the city is also a hub for outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, canyoneering, and stargazing. With infrastructure and event spaces built to support the acclaimed Utah Shakespeare Festival and university happenings, along with access to a regional airport, it is a destination ready to welcome your event.

As the home of Dinosaur National Monument, Uintah County/Vernal is a unique destination for meetings and events. The new Uintah Conference Center offers excellent value and is located in a remote but authentic area. Exploration opportunities include Dinosaur National Monument’s famous “Wall of Bones,” rafting the Green River, paddleboarding Red Fleet State Park, hiking, mountain biking, off-roading, and more.
