Gilbert

CENTRAL ARIZONA

DiscoverGilbert.com; @DiscoverGilbert—Often called Phoenix’s “coolest suburb,” Gilbert is a top city for economic growth with a nationally recognized downtown, says Glenn Schlottman, tourism program manager for Discover Gilbert. “Our award-winning Heritage District has more than 30 restaurants, live theater, a farmers’ market, an illuminated water tower, and a stunning collection of public art. Architectural Digest named Gilbert one of the nation’s best hidden-gem destinations for winter travelers, earning first place for activities and dining. With 100 years of rich history and guided growth, Gilbert is one of the top communities in the Southwest worth discovering.”

The 121-room DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Phoenix Gilbert completed renovations in 2024, enhancing guest rooms and facilities. The hotel is adjacent to SanTan Elegante Conference & Reception Center, which has 15,252 square feet of event space, including an 800-person-capacity ballroom. Also new is the 122-room WoodSpring Suites Gilbert—Mesa Gateway Airport. Several hotels are under construction near the SanTan District, including a 130-room Homewood Suites, 109-room Residence Inn by Marriott, and 134-room Springhill Suites by Marriott.

Gilbert Historical Museum at HD South has announced plans for an expansion, which will include a 6,500-square-foot multipurpose room to accommodate 600 guests theater style or 300 banquet style. The facility currently includes two meeting rooms and a large courtyard with a covered porch.

Other event venues include Freestone Recreation Center, which can accommodate 100 people, and Gilbert Community Center, which can accommodate 160 people. In the SanTan District, The Kiln meeting and co-working space can accommodate 150 people. Gilbert currently offers 1,276 guest rooms at 12 hotel properties.

Creative recreation and teambuilding experiences abound, Schlottman says. “Exploring the Sonoran Desert with guided mountain-biking tours is a great option. Arizona Goat Yoga has themed classes for groups, and the 110-acre Riparian Preserve provides guided bird watching, stargazing parties, tai chi, wellness walks, and other activities. Also, Agritopia Farm is a stunning venue. Whether you choose the lush community garden or orchard, your event will be surrounded by the natural beauty and rustic charm of a working urban farm.”

Planners may take advantage of spring and fall concerts in the park in the newly renovated Water Tower Plaza in the downtown Heritage District, a year-round Gilbert Farmers’ Market, and holiday lights and displays at Riparian Preserve.
