The mineral-rich hot springs along the Rio Grande River drew visitors long before Europeans settled the area. The town incorporated as Palomas Hot Springs Town Site in 1914, and by 1919 the name had been shortened to Hot Springs. In 1950, the town changed its name as part of a publicity scheme to celebrate the 10th anniversary of an NBC radio game show, “Truth or Consequences.”
There are 10 commercial spas in the downtown area and several outdoor areas where guests can relax and explore the natural wonders. Geronimo Springs Museum, Geronimo Trail National Scenic Byway Visitors Center, and Dianne Hamilton Military Museum welcome visitors. The area also boasts an array of outdoor activities, including rafting on the Rio Grande.
Truth or Consequences Civic Center has a 7,098-square-foot auditorium seating up to 825 guests. The facility also offers smaller classrooms, an onsite kitchen, and a stage. Holiday Inn Express & Suites Truth or Consequences, an IHG Hotel offers a prime location in the historic town, along with 576 square feet of classroom/conference space to seat up to 40 guests. The hotel includes a pool, fitness center, business center, and Wi-Fi and offers complimentary breakfast and EV chargers.
Sierra Grande Spa at Ted Turner Reserves provides a tranquil retreat destination for groups of up to 40. The 17-room hotel has private indoor and outdoor hot springs, and guests can enjoy a 30-minute complimentary soak each day. The resort also includes a fitness facility, a spa, and complimentary continental breakfast.
