TRUCKEE, Calif.—Construction has officially begun on The Mtn Scout Truckee, a new 129-room hotel in the Village at Gray’s Crossing in Truckee, Calif. Developed by Gray’s Crossing Hospitality in partnership with Huff Construction and H-CPM project management, the project aims to expand the hospitality offering in the Lake Tahoe Basin region.
Truckee Mayor Jan Zabriskie, Gray’s Crossing hospitality managing partner Matthew Abbate, and other local officials attended the groundbreaking ceremony on June 24. The event marked the start of a construction process expected to be completed by early 2028. Once open, the hotel will operate under PM Hotel Group as part of Marriott Bonvoy’s Tribute Portfolio.
“This hotel serves as both an integral piece of the Village at Gray’s Crossing and a cornerstone of the community,” Abbate said, noting its role in delivering year-round access to outdoor activities and local amenities.
Brad Ardis, president of Huff Construction, said the development follows earlier work on the Village at Gray’s Crossing. “The Scout hotel marks the next step in creating a truly complete destination,” he said.
The hotel will feature a ground-floor restaurant and bar, outdoor gathering spaces with firepits, hot tubs, an event hall with garden patios, a fitness center, and gear storage. A third-floor whiskey lounge named Tunnel 6 will reference the local railroad history and nearby summit tunnel built during the construction of the transcontinental railway.
Architect Andrew Goodwin Designs (AGD) leads the hotel design, with branding and interiors by Sixteenfifty Creative Intelligence. The team says the building will reflect the mountain environment while incorporating sustainable and regionally inspired elements.
“The Scout hotel embodies a new age of architecture and sustainability that speaks to regionalism first,” said AGD founder Andrew Goodwin.
Located within the Village at Gray’s Crossing, the hotel joins a development with 24 residences and designated affordable housing. Residents and guests can access shared amenities including a golf course, trails, and dining facilities. Additional developments are planned for the area.
The Mtn Scout Truckee will become part of the broader network of hotels under Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio, which includes independently operated properties that reflect local character and design.
