The Bower Coronado, a new luxury boutique hotel on Coronado Island, Calif., has announced the appointments of Sean Murphy as general manager and Nicholas Durslag as director of sales and marketing. These appointments come as the 39-room property prepares to open its doors on February 28, 2025.

Murphy brings more than 10 years of experience in luxury hospitality, including roles at The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern, Auberge Resorts Collection, and Hotel Esencia in Mexico. At Mattei’s Tavern, he led operations during the property’s opening and contributed to its recognition as one of Architectural Digest’s best new hotels of 2023. At Hotel Esencia, he helped the property secure a Forbes Five-Star rating and a place on Travel + Leisure’s 2023 World’s Best Awards list.

Murphy has also held leadership roles at The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara and The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel. He is a member of the Forbes Travel Guide Standards Advisory Committee, which develops global industry standards for hospitality.

Durslag joins The Bower following his tenure as director of transient and business travel at Royal Sonesta San Francisco, where he achieved significant increases in consortia market penetration and wholesale revenue. His previous experience spans roles with Marriott, Accor, and Sonesta, as well as international assignments in Spain, Mexico, Thailand, Switzerland, and the United States. He holds a master’s degree in Hotel Management from Glion Institute of Higher Education and certifications in hotel real estate investments and revenue management from Cornell University.

The Bower Coronado is located on a historic Japanese tea garden site and incorporates wabi-sabi design principles, using natural materials and serene esthetics. The property features such amenities as Le Labo bath products, Coronado’s first rooftop bar and restaurant, called Dive, and curated experiences like sailing excursions and gallery visits.
