LOS ANGELES—The Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) has promoted Sonia Trejo from senior event manager to director of events and special projects, a newly created role that will oversee client experience and strategic initiatives during the venue’s $2.6 billion expansion and modernization project.
Trejo, CVP, CMP, CEM, will serve as a primary liaison for event organizers over the next three years, leading the execution of high-profile events and coordinating with partners to ensure events run smoothly during LACC’s ongoing construction. She will also spearhead special initiatives across the convention center’s meetings and conventions portfolio, focusing on minimizing construction impacts and maintaining operational continuity.
Trejo brings extensive experience in event services and project management, having overseen a range of conventions, corporate meetings, and special programs at LACC, as well as at GES, T-Mobile, and Anaheim Convention Center.
“Sonia has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a deep understanding of the complexities of large-scale event operations,” says Carisa Norton, CVP, vice president of event services at LACC. “Her appointment will help to ensure operational excellence as we continue to elevate and transform our venue for the future.”
Kimberly Weedmark, general manager of the LACC for Legends Global, which manages the facility, adds, “Our success is driven by the strength of our team. Sonia exemplifies the leadership values we strive to cultivate within our organization. Her experience, integrity, and passion for excellence position her to make a significant impact in this new role. We are confident she will continue to elevate the standards of service our clients expect as the LACC evolves to become one of the top 10 largest convention centers in the United States by early 2029. This promotion underscores our dedication to recognizing and advancing outstanding talent, as well as the Center’s ongoing investment in leadership development and its commitment to delivering exceptional event solutions for the conventions and meetings community,” Weedmark says.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to step into this role and continue supporting our clients, partners, and team at the highest level,” Trejo says. “I look forward to building upon our achievements and contributing to innovative, memorable experiences for our clients and partners throughout this very special industry.”
LACC is owned by the City of Los Angeles. In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025, LACC supported more than 12,000 local jobs and generated $685 million in regional economic impact.
