SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.—Scottsdale Golf Retreat at Troon North has appointed Thomas Ulrich as resort manager and Tom Pavao as director of sales and golf experience. The 26-suite luxury resort, situated adjacent to Troon North Golf Club, is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in early 2026.

Ulrich brings more than 20 years of leadership in luxury hospitality, with senior roles at Hilton, Marriott, MGM Resorts International, and Wynn Resorts. A Certified Hotel Manager, he has specialized in pre-openings, renovations, and operational turnarounds. His past positions include general manager posts at Hampton Inn Del Mar in San Diego and TownePlace Suites Las Vegas, director of operations at Embassy Suites Las Vegas, and hotel operations manager at Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Ulrich has a strong record of driving revenue growth, improving guest satisfaction, and mentoring diverse teams.

Pavao, a Class A PGA Professional since 2005, will lead sales and the golf experience for the new property. He brings more than two decades of experience in luxury golf operations, including leadership roles at Pine Canyon Club in Flagstaff, The Silverleaf Club in Scottsdale, and Barbuda Ocean Club in the West Indies for Discovery Land Company. His career encompasses designing large-scale events, enhancing service standards, and cultivating club cultures that prioritize member engagement.

“Scottsdale, one of the top golf destinations in the world, finally has a stay-and-play option, combining the world-class Troon North golf courses with four-bedroom/four-bath suites for traveling golfers, and the ability to accommodate corporate retreats of up to 100 guests, buddy golf trips of 16 to 40, weddings, and special events,” says Mike Anderson with MBA Development Partners, the Scottsdale-based real estate development group behind the project. “We are excited to have Thomas and Tom play integral roles at the resort in delivering extraordinary experiences for our guests.”

Scottsdale Golf Retreat will feature 20 four-bedroom/four-bath suites and six two-bedroom/two-bath suites, ranging from approximately 700 to 1,615 square feet. The design centers on a private enclave layout with spa-inspired bathrooms, private patios and balconies, and a mix of amenities, including a guest lounge, dining and meeting spaces, a pool, an in-ground spa, an outdoor kitchen, and fire features.
