Raton’s public lands and state parks call outdoor enthusiasts from near and far. Outdoor recreation is a favorite pastime, and several state parks are within a short driving distance. In addition, the city offers access to Vermejo Park Ranch, Maxwell National Wildlife Refuge, the Enchanted Circle scenic byway, and Capulin Volcano National Monument.
As for arts, Raton is home to the historic Shuler Theater, which hosts a year-round performing arts season. Local artists display their works at Old Pass Gallery, and Raton Museum preserves the city’s history.
