NORTHERN UTAH
VisitParkCity.com; @VisitParkCity—Natural beauty and mountain charm are synonymous with Park City, a thriving town situated in the Wasatch Mountains, in northern Utah. “An authentic Western mountain destination dating from 1884, Park City offers myriad outdoor recreation opportunities in every season,” says Tonya Sweeten, vice president of group sales for Visit Park City.
Just 35 minutes from Salt Lake City International Airport, Park City is easily accessible from practically anywhere. Once there, the city’s free public transit system makes navigating around town easy.
Park City is home to 30 meeting and conference properties, offering more than 125,000 square feet of space, combined. Montage Deer Valley, one of Park City’s largest meeting venues, has 60,000 square feet of meeting space. The property completed a renovation last year of all 220 guest rooms.
Pendry Park City offers 152 guest rooms and 7,000 square feet of meeting space. Goldener Hirsch also recently added 40 guest rooms, a 3,200-square-foot ballroom, and a new rooftop event deck. “In 2023, Goldener Hirsch was named the No.1 hotel in the United States in Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards,” Sweeten says. “The Best awards issue noted that six of Utah’s top 10 hotels all are located in Park City.” In addition, she says the Lodge at Blue Sky was recognized in 2023 with the Lavazza “One to Watch” award at its gala event in London.
In total, Park City offers 4,000 guest rooms across its many hotels, which include a variety of options, from luxury resorts to nationally recognized brands and boutique hotels.
Park City is known for its outdoor recreational opportunities, many of which can be utilized by groups for teambuilding or simply excursions to get a feel of the mountain town. Hiking, horseback riding, hot-air ballooning, flyfishing, golfing, mountain biking, rafting, skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling are some of the most notable recreational activities in Park City. Many of those can be enjoyed on Park City Mountain, the largest ski resort in the United States. Park City Mountain boasts 7,300 acres, more than 330 trails, more than 40 lifts, and six terrain parks. Deer Valley Resort is another destination for skiing during the winter months. Woodward Park City is a year-round destination, with more than 80 acres for everything from skiing and snowboarding to mountain biking, skateboarding, BMX, and snow tubing.
Beyond the slopes, groups can enjoy activities centered around Park City’s history. Park City Museum offers a variety of interactive exhibits featuring Park City’s mining and ski history. Park City Ghost Tour offers a 75-minute walking tour of Main Street and the spookier side of the mountain town. Groups also can enjoy guided historical hikes at Deer Valley Resort. The scheduled hikes typically last three to four hours and cover less than six miles; hikers can learn about the area’s mining history while taking in the beautiful views of the terrain around Deer Valley Resort.
One of the biggest draws to Park City is Sundance Film Festival. Founded by Robert Redford in 1981 with the “mission of fostering new voices in American storytelling,” according to the festival website, the annual event attracts tens of thousands of visitors from across the country during the last two weeks of January as part of its showcase of independent filmmakers.
Park City is home to a number of distilleries, many of which provide groups with unique spots for unwinding after the day’s meeting or conference. High West Distillery is a ski-in distillery—the only one in the world. Located at the base of the Town Lift, High West Distillery provides educational tours of its distilling operation and teaches guests how to make whiskey and vodka. Groups can also sit back and sip on their favorite cocktails in its full-service bar, complete with tasting room and alpine-inspired menu offerings. Alpine Distilling, a locally owned and operated distillery, offers award-winning whiskey and gin. In fact, Alpine Distilling’s Park City Gin was awarded “Gin of the Year” in London and “Best in Show” in Las Vegas; guests to Alpine Distilling can enjoy hands-on gin-making classes. Other local hotspots include The Eating Establishment, which is owned by Modern Family’s Ty Burrell and is known for its Bloody Mary bar; and Hearth & Hill, which offers a make-your-own Old Fashioned.
